Significance & Value on Others

Inspiration
2009 has been a very challenging yet an exciting year for us. I'ts also been a year where families from all backgrounds have crossed our path. Women currently living in domestic violence, children living apart from families due to alcohol and drugs and families facing financially stretching times.
As I think about all these connections I sometimes feel overwhelmed with the magnitude of need that is in our very own backyard.
One of the greatest needs i see facing the hearts of people is the desire to be listened to & the desire to feel connected in their community &/or family.
So how can I in 2010, as a single parent, with my own resources already stretched, begin to be a vessel for God in this world so others may see their potential and value?

How
My idea is simply this - to make sure I’m absolutely present & listening when connected with another person. To appreciate the experience they are going through without devaluing them or their situation, and to be with that person without any agenda of my own.
Although this is not a financial or practical idea as such, my prayer is for this idea to be a stepping stone, to greater things.

Definitely!it's very important to connect; when I'm at work I hear of people's trouble, and it's easy to disconnect after a while. But eye contact and a smile make a world of difference
Vanessa, you're right! We should always be present and be there with the person we are talking with! You are a role model to many people and to your daughter! She will grow up and see how you treated people which will put values in her heart that she will carry with her the whole life! My mum has done that for me and I know what kind of impact that had on my life!
