Host a FreeRice.com Day
Access to FoodAnywhere - Detroit, Michigan, USA
Inspiration
For many years, whenever I have a few spare minutes, I play FreeRice.com . This site is set up by the UN World Food Programme with the purpose of providing food for those in need and educating people worldwide about hunger. On this site, you play a simple trivia game, and for each question you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice. It's a really easy way to learn and help out at the same time.
What
As much as I loved playing this game, so many people I have talked to about it never knew that it existed. So, I decided to host a FreeRice day in the building i live in at my university.
How
I made flyers telling about the site and the impact that we could have in a single day. On that day, we sat in the lounge for about 5 hours and people came in and out all day long. While people were there playing the game on their laptops, we discussed world hunger and built community within the building. By the end of the day, we had donated over 60,000 grains of rice!
