Personal prayer for public results
By Nikki James9 Feb 2010
I’ve been passionate about helping people since before I can remember, some of my most vivid childhood memories are of me picking out Christmas presents to put under the Salvation Army Tree and choosing clothes to put in the local charity bin. Beyond this I’d always tried to live a generous life but my world and focus did not go much beyond the need I could physically see.
About five years ago my perspective expanded and I became aware of the needs of people beyond the Australian shores. I’d always seen reports about disasters that affected people and articles about wars but never connected with the individual people beyond the news story. The time when this connection occurred was a difficult situation to navigate because up until this point the need I was aware of was at close proximity, making it easy to get involved and help.
But, as a young person fresh out of University, paying of student loans while finding my feet in the professional world I didn’t feel like I could do anything for these people that were so evidently hurting. There was always the opportunity to give financially but this was out of reach for me. This conflict caused me to draw back and actually paralyzed and disempowered me.
A few years ago God gave me a personal revelation of the power of my prayers and the fact that our prayers are the single most powerful tool we have to help people that are hurting around the globe. For me, I’d always heard people tell me this and I think I believed it in my head but I definitely did not believe it in my heart up until this point. This revelation has empowered me to help people practically in my local community and nation but has enabled me to pray powerfully for people and situations around the world. Although I won’t know the effects of these prayers in this life I know in my heart that they make a big difference.
So what’s your revelation of the power of YOUR prayers? If you don’t have one ask God to make it real for you and I’m confident that He will, because there are so many people in need of your prayers.

Amen! Sometimes we do get caught up in doing only what we can see with our eyes is making a difference. But it's such an amazing blessing to be able to be a part of something that can change the spiritual world as well.

Amen to that sista! So true, sometimes I beat myself up because I feel like I am not doing enough at this present season. But God kindly reminds me that all He asks is for me to pray, to set aside time and earnestly seek His will for this earth.

Praying is one of the ways we can be directly connected with God. To me it has nothing to do with a ritual or a religious obligation. I talk to God anytime I want to and wherever I am. It is also the moment in which I set aside time to pray for others and for me. Indeed, to me, it is one the most powerful ways of showing love and care, for whenever I intercede, direct other people's wishes, anguish, problems so on an so forth to God somehow I become Jesus' hands and feet on earth.
