“Rescue, raise, rebuild”
In Sub Saharan Africa, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has orphaned more than 14 million children. In response, Watoto created ‘children’s villages’ placing eight children and one widow ‘mother’ in a home. Today we have the opportunity to provide optical consultations and eye-glasses for these mothers who care for over 2000 of Uganda’s most vulnerable.
How often do we take everyday blessings like the ability to see for granted? When was the last time you thanked God for the presence of clean water in your tap? Even the ability to go to a medical centre when we are ill or in pain is often seen as a basic right in our culture. The fact that there are vulnerable men, women and children all over the world who would literally give everything and anything to have the chance to live the way that we do every day should mean something to us. For us, these things aren’t even an option; they are right. So why shouldn’t it be the same for everyone?
If you have ever had to live with poor eyesight, you know what it’s like to feel bound to the immediate world around you. But with the help of all of us together, we can make a way for widows who are missing out on seeing the everyday beauty of God’s creation feel confident again, and therefore be at their best to be able to care for the children in their keep.
For $15 x 10, ONE widowed mother, who cares for eight orphans, can now see the world clearly in Uganda.
